Corrine’s last Road Race for 2015…
32STE OMLOOP VAN WENDUINE – Corinne racing in Belgium on Saturday.
Belgium and back in a day for 1 race!
Saturday 19th saw Corinne’s second trip to the continent in as many weekends. After a successful outing in the lower leagues the previous weekend she travelled to the Pro Kermesse at Wenduine. Unsure of what to expect she was naturally apprehensive arriving to see 4 Lotto Belisol riders, 6 Topsport Vlaanderen riders and 2 Velocio SRAM riders, along with several of the girls from the Napoleon Games squad to form a field of 56 starters. This was soon forgotten as she rode herself into the break on the second lap containing all the hitters. Naturally, the girls were uncomfortable with the presence of an unknown rider and continually attacked her until she was dropped back to the main field. Several laps later a small chase group were able to slip away before it was too late to join them and Corinne and her soon to be team-mate Becca Carter spent the remainder of the race trying to close the gap. With the chasers catching the break to form a group of 17 mostly UCI pro’s the fate of the bunch was sealed and the gap rose to 7 minutes. Following a fast finish Corinne came across the line in 25th place overall. The race was won by Topsport Vlaanderen – Dames Wielerploeg rider Kelly Druyts, who featured to finish 8th in La Madrid Challenge by La Vuelta the previous weekend.
This was Corinne’s last road race of the 2015 season and her last in Ride 24/7 colours as she leaves to join the Women’s Elite Team WNT squad next year. She will however be racing for Ride 24/7 in Belgium in 3 weeks time for her first taste of Elite Cyclocross action at Meulebeke.
Corinne would like to thank all of her supporters this year and especially her sponsors Ride 24/7 Cycle Shop, Steele Davis Ltd, Cirencester Friendly, Honeywell, ISI Global, James Whiting, Somewhere Else and Via Roma Cycling coaching.
