Corrine – 2nd at Castle Combe + Cricklade Kermesse
The weather at Castle Combe on Thursday was pretty grey, it began to lightly drizzle at the start but thankfully held off throughout the race. The group pretty much stayed together throughout the race. A few attacks, however no breaks were made. The race came down to the last lap. As it was my first race back from injury I was worried about a group sprint finish so decided to go early. 20 metres to the finish Jo Tindley from WNT managed to sprint passed and take 1st. I managed to hold 2nd place. Diane also raced a very impressive race, very strong and got top 10.
Cricklade kermesse was the 2nd race for the woman in the Cotswold League. I was currently wearing the leaders Jersey.
5 of us in our ladies team were racing, Myself, Di, Katie, Dot and Alex.
It was very windy and cloudy for our race, which meant a head wind up the climb and down the other side. The race started off very slow, a couple of attacks from both ride24/7 and performance cycle teams.
Both teams dominated the race, attacks were made throughout the race but nothing stuck.
Common hill seemed to be were the weaker riders got dropped so front pack got smaller and smaller. Sadly throughout the race there were 3 different crashes who ever no one was hurt badly. It looked like it was going to be down to a sprint finish on the climb.
The performance girls rode the last two laps very well, which they then lead out their sprinter Rebecca to take the win. I managed to to get 2nd place with Diane and Dot not far behind to finish in the top 10.
Katie and Alex also rode well and look strong for future races.
